Website redesign for non-profit organization as part of 48in48 Social Justice Event.

Project:

Re-design website for non-profit organization. The client wanted a page that was user-friendly and had direct ways for donors to donate funds.

Timeline:

The project timeline was strictly 48 hours to complete the entire design build from June 24-26, 2022.

Role & Tools

My role was UX/UI Designer in a team of 5 people. I used Adobe Photoshop, Canva, and Wordpress(Beaver Builder) for this project.

Client: Free Migration Project

This was a 48 hour volunteer event organized by the non-profit 48in48.

Some of the changes included having social media icons at the footer of every page, a more user-friendly “Contact Us” page, as well as showcasing the people behind FMP.

Changes:

The client wanted changes to the visual hierarchy of the entire website. The “donate” button was also something that needed to be static within every page of the website.

Mobile and Desktop Friendly

Some of the changes included making the website easier to access regardless of the device. In both mobile and desktop, a user can easily access the menu bar as well as the donate button.

Constraints:

Due to the quick turn-around time for this project, our team did not have the time to do a thorough analysis of the specific users our client targeted through interviews or surveys. We relied solely on the information given to us by our clients which included the main pain points they saw in their previous design and how they wanted that fixed. We did have examples of similar non-profits who the client worked with that had successful and user friendly websites. We relied on these resources as well as client feedback to create the final website. In future projects, I think sending out a high-fidelity prototype to at least three potential clients could help create a better final product. We also faced constraints with adding plugins which were not available to us such as translating the website for non-English speakers.

Final Thoughts:

Even though we only had 48 hours, we used all of the information given to us by our client to create a responsive website that addressed their needs. This opportunity helped me gain hands-on experience working with developers and a team as well as working directly with clients. I really appreciated getting to volunteer with 48in48 for this project, and seeing the end results for the other 47 website redesigns also helped me gain a better understanding of good responsive web development.
